Read about Iris and Herringbone reproductions below.
Maker / Marks:
Jeannette Glass Co from 1928 to 1932 during the Depression Era
6 1/2" tall by 3" wide and holds approximately 12 ounces
The tumbler is in excellent condition with a fleabite on the foot edge.
Gene Florence states in his Collector's Encyclopedia of Depression Glass, that the original ice tea tumblers can be distinguished from the reproductions by feeling the rays on the foot as the new rays are so sharp they can cut your finger if you press hard on them. Old rays are rounded and feel smooth in comparison. These are the original tumblers as they are very smooth and well defined.
Furthermore, he states that the paneled design on the new tumbler gets very weak in several places as you rotate it in your hand, and the old tumbler paneled design stay bold around the entire tumbler.
Florence also states that all new Iris is exceedingly clear without a tinge of color of any sort. He states that if you place an old, original, crystal Iris on a white tablecloth or paper, it will look gray or even slightly yellow. This is the original Iris and Herringbone.
