In the June 1987 free-agent draft, Ken Griffey, Jr., was the first-round, first pick of the Seattle Mariners.  The left-hander has since become one of the few players to hit more than 55 home runs in a single season.  On two occasions, he hit 3 home runs in a single game.  His career total of grand-slam homers has climbed to 9.  Awarded the A. L. Golden Glove, the star outfielder was named to the All-Star team 8 years in a row and was A. L. MVP in 1997.  Ken Griffey, Jr., and his dad, Ken Griffey, Sr., made baseball history – as the first father and son to play on the same major league club at the same time.

Each year, this series honors a different baseball great.
