In eighteenth-century Naples, leading artists created elaborate Nativity scenes filled ith elegantly costumed figures.  The craftsmen included townspeople and travelers in sweeping panoramas which depicted the Holy Family surrounded by adoring shepherds, angels, and the Magi.  This beautiful sculpted angel with her colorful robe reflects the rich, Neapolitan tradition of créche-making.
